  • 1/2 cup split yellow moong dal, rinsed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 4 cups water

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. 1Wash and soak the foxtail millet and moong dal for 10 minutes, then drain.
  2. 2Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds until they crackle.
  3. 3Add onion and ginger, sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. 4Stir in carrot, peas, and turmeric powder, cooking for another 2 minutes.
  5. 5Add the soaked millet and moong dal, mixing well with the vegetables.
  6. 6Pour in water, season lightly with salt if desired, and stir thoroughly.
  7. 7Pressure cook for 3 whistles or until the millet and dal are soft and creamy.
  8. 8Let the pressure release naturally, fluff gently, and serve warm.
